How to use ACT to print your promotion point slip
The Army Career Tracker (ACT) gives soldiers a central place to review career information, military education, assignments and selected personnel data. Depending on your rank, component and current Army systems, the promotion points worksheet may appear through an ACT link to another personnel application rather than as a document stored directly in ACT.
A printed promotion point slip is useful when checking a board packet, discussing discrepancies with your unit administrator or keeping a personal record. Soldiers serving in Australia should remember that US Army systems operate on US procedures and access controls, even when the user is based in Canberra, Sydney, Brisbane or another Australian location.
What ACT does for promotion records
ACT is commonly used as a career-management gateway. After signing in with your Army credentials, it may provide access to training history, military education, assignments, goals and links to related personnel tools. The exact menu names can change as Army platforms are updated.
Your promotion point slip is generally associated with the Promotion Point Worksheet, often shortened to PPW. The worksheet reflects the data used for enlisted promotion eligibility, such as military education, awards, physical fitness information, weapons qualification and civilian education. ACT may display a shortcut to the worksheet instead of generating the document itself.
Sign in and locate the worksheet
Open the official ACT site from a secure browser and sign in using the authentication method requested. On a shared computer, avoid saving credentials, and sign out fully when finished. A personal device connected through a trusted network is usually preferable to a public computer in a hotel, café or airport.
Once inside ACT, look for a career, promotion or personnel section. Search for wording such as “Promotion Points,” “Promotion Point Worksheet,” “PPW” or “Enlisted Promotions.” If ACT redirects you to another Army application, allow the page to load and confirm that your name and personnel details are correct before printing.
Review the promotion points data first
Do not treat the printed worksheet as automatically complete. Compare the entries with your own records, including course completions, college transcripts, awards, marksmanship results and physical fitness documentation. A missing course or incorrect date can affect the displayed total.
Training updates may take time to move between Army databases. If you recently completed a course at a location such as Fort Bragg, Fort Moore or a US training centre, the completion may not appear immediately. A soldier posted in Australia may also need to account for time-zone differences when contacting a US-based help desk, particularly when working from AEST or ACST.
For documents stored in iPERMS, the separate NCOER iPERMS guide can help you locate and print an evaluation report. An NCOER supports a personnel record, but it is different from the promotion point worksheet and should not be substituted for it.
Print or save the promotion point slip
When the correct worksheet is visible, select the print icon or the browser’s print command. Check the print preview before sending the job. A portrait layout, readable scaling and all pages selected will usually produce a clearer record than printing only the first page.
If a physical copy is unnecessary, choose “Save as PDF” where permitted by Army policy. Give the file a clear name containing the date, such as “Promotion_Points_2025-06-15,” and store it in an approved location. Do not email personnel records to an unapproved commercial address or upload them to an unknown document-conversion service.
Australian-based soldiers sometimes use a home printer, a unit office or a base library. Commercial print shops and office-supply retailers such as Officeworks may be convenient, but sensitive military records should not be left on a public computer or sent through a third-party account. The Australian Privacy Act 1988 is relevant to Australian organisations handling personal information, while Army security rules still govern US personnel records.
Fix missing or incorrect information
If the worksheet is blank, outdated or inconsistent, capture the error without distributing sensitive details widely. Record the date and time, the screen or section affected and the supporting document you believe should be reflected. A screenshot can help explain the issue, but it should be stored securely.
Raise the issue through your chain of command, S1, unit administrator, servicing personnel office or the appropriate Army help channel. Ask which office owns the correction before submitting documents. Some matters belong with human resources, while others require the school, awards office, education centre or records manager to update the source system.
A promotion point slip is a snapshot of available data, not a guarantee that every correction has been accepted. Keep the old and revised versions separately so you can show what changed and when.
Practical checks before submitting a packet
The following habits make a printed worksheet more useful during promotion preparation:
- Confirm your name, rank, component and eligibility information.
- Check that military and civilian education entries show the correct completion status.
- Compare awards, badges, qualifications and weapons results with official source documents.
- Review the total points and the worksheet date before giving it to S1 or a board packet manager.
- Print every page, including continuation pages, or save a complete PDF.
- Protect the document after printing and dispose of extra copies through approved shredding.
For broader guidance on NCOERs, OERs, iPERMS, identification cards and DD-214 requests, the EES Army guides provide general informational material. The site is not an official Army portal, so current instructions from your unit and Army personnel channels take priority.
