How to Print a Copy of Your NCOER from iPERMS

Your Noncommissioned Officer Evaluation Report (NCOER) is part of your official Army personnel record. A printed copy can be useful for promotion packets, reassignment preparation, counseling files, retirement planning, or personal recordkeeping. The authoritative electronic version is generally maintained in the Army Military Human Resource Record (AMHRR) through iPERMS.

The exact screen names and access steps may change as Army systems are updated. However, the basic process remains consistent: sign in securely, locate the correct evaluation, open the document, download or print the PDF, and verify that every page is readable. For related guidance on Army evaluation systems and administrative records, review EES Army resources.

What iPERMS Stores

iPERMS is used to maintain official personnel documents in an electronic Army record. Depending on your service history and record status, it may contain NCOERs, awards, training documents, separation paperwork, identification documents, and other authorized files.

An NCOER may appear with a document title, evaluation period, status, or filing date. The file may be listed as a PDF or as an image-based document. Before printing, confirm that you have selected the completed evaluation rather than a draft, routing copy, unsigned version, or unrelated administrative attachment.

Prepare Before Access

Use an approved computer and a current browser whenever possible. iPERMS access commonly requires a Common Access Card (CAC), a card reader, and the appropriate military authentication certificates. Make sure your CAC is inserted correctly and that the browser recognizes the authentication certificate before opening the personnel records system.

If you are working on other evaluation-related administrative tasks, the EES Army login may be useful for accessing general EES guidance. It is separate from iPERMS, so use the official personnel-records portal for retrieving the filed NCOER itself.

Have the evaluation period, rated Soldier information, and approximate filing date in mind. Knowing whether you need the most recent report, a historical report, or a specific annual or change-of-rater evaluation will make the search faster and reduce the risk of printing the wrong document.

Locate the NCOER

After signing in, open the area used to search or review documents in your AMHRR. Use available filters such as document category, date range, or keyword. Search results may display several evaluation records with similar names, so read the metadata carefully before opening a file.

Check the beginning and ending dates of the report, the rated Soldier’s name, the rank or duty position when shown, and the document status. If the NCOER has multiple pages, open the complete file rather than printing only the first screen of the search result.

If the report cannot be found, allow time for normal record updates after signature and processing. A recently completed NCOER may still be moving through administrative review or filing. Contact the appropriate S-1, unit administrator, or human resources support office when a document that should be filed is missing.

Download and Print the PDF

Open the NCOER and wait for all pages to load. Look for a download, export, or print control within the document viewer. Downloading the PDF first is often preferable because it gives you a saved copy that can be checked before sending it to a printer.

If the file opens in a browser PDF viewer, select the printer icon or use the browser’s print command. Choose the correct printer, confirm the page range, and select options such as portrait orientation, actual size, or fit to page. Avoid reducing the document too aggressively, because signatures, duty descriptions, and rating comments must remain legible.

Step What to Check Expected Result
Sign in CAC and authentication Secure access to the record
Search Document type and evaluation dates Correct NCOER located
Open Page count and report details Complete file displayed
Download PDF name and saved location Usable electronic copy
Print Orientation, scale, and pages Clear hard copy

Save the downloaded file only in an approved, protected location. An NCOER contains personally identifiable information and sensitive performance information. Do not leave the PDF on a shared workstation, upload it to an unapproved cloud service, or send it through an unsecured personal account.

Check the Printed Copy

Review the physical copy from beginning to end. Confirm that no page is missing, text is not cut off, signatures or authentication blocks are visible, and the report dates match the evaluation you intended to retrieve. A printer preview can reveal problems before paper and toner are used.

If the printout is faint, clipped, or scaled incorrectly, return to the PDF viewer and adjust the print settings. “Fit to printable area” may help when margins are being cut off, while “actual size” may preserve the document’s original layout. Select a high-quality setting when the NCOER includes small text or scanned signatures.

A printed copy is useful for working purposes, but it does not replace the official electronic record. When a board, assignment office, or human resources representative requests an official document, follow that organization’s instructions about whether a digital file, certified record, or other format is required.

Recordkeeping Practices

Keep personal copies organized by evaluation period and document type. Use clear file names that include the report dates, such as “NCOER_2023-06_to_2024-05.pdf,” while avoiding unnecessary personal data in the file name. Store the files in an encrypted or otherwise authorized location.

Good habits can reduce future delays:

  • Verify the report period before downloading or printing.
  • Keep the complete PDF rather than individual screenshots.
  • Protect printed copies from unauthorized viewing or disposal.
  • Compare important copies against the current iPERMS record.
  • Report missing, incomplete, or incorrect documents through the proper Army administrative channel.

If an NCOER contains an apparent error, do not alter the PDF or write on the official copy as a substitute for correction. Preserve the original record and ask the S-1, servicing human resources office, or other authorized official about the appropriate amendment or appeal process.

Use iPERMS to retrieve the filed version whenever you need a reliable copy, then inspect it before including it in a packet or submitting it for official business. Print a clean working copy, protect the electronic file, and keep your evaluation record ready for the next personnel requirement.
