How to access your AER through the Army’s online portal
An Academic Evaluation Report (AER), usually completed on DA Form 1059, records a soldier’s performance and academic progress at a military school or training program. After the report is prepared, reviewed, and signed, it becomes an important part of the official personnel record and may affect future assignments, schooling, and promotion decisions.
The Army’s digital systems can make an AER easier to locate, but access depends on the report’s status and the system used by the school or unit. EES may be used to prepare or manage the evaluation, while iPERMS is generally the place to review documents that have been filed in the Army Military Human Resource Record (AMHRR).
A missing document does not always mean the report was never completed. It may still be awaiting signatures, quality review, upload, or indexing. Knowing which portal to check—and what evidence to gather when the record is absent—can save time.
Know where the AER is stored
EES is commonly associated with the preparation and processing of Army evaluations. Depending on your role, you may be able to open an evaluation, review a draft, sign a completed form, or monitor its workflow. Access generally requires a Common Access Card (CAC), an active Army account, and the permissions assigned to your position.
Once finalized, the AER should normally be submitted for filing in the soldier’s AMHRR. iPERMS is the primary online repository used to view many official personnel documents. An AER that has completed processing may therefore be visible in iPERMS even if you can no longer open it in the original EES workflow.
Do not confuse an AER with the Enlisted Record Brief or another personnel summary. If you need to check related service information first, the guidance on viewing your ERB can help you identify the correct record and avoid searching for an AER in the wrong system.
Sign in to the evaluation system
Start with the Army evaluation portal used by your unit, school, or command. Insert your CAC, open a supported browser, and sign in with the certificate associated with your military identity. If the portal displays more than one certificate, the authentication certificate is typically the appropriate selection.
After signing in, look for an area labeled with terms such as “My Evaluations,” “My Documents,” “Reports,” or “Evaluation History.” The exact menu names can change as Army systems are updated. Search by report type, school dates, status, or the rated soldier’s name when those options are available.
If you are part of the rating chain, access may be governed by your assigned role rather than by the report itself. A rater, senior rater, reviewer, or unit administrator may see different actions. The rating chain guide provides useful background on how those responsibilities affect evaluation access.
Find the finalized report in iPERMS
If the AER is not available in EES, sign in to iPERMS and review the documents filed in your AMHRR. Use the document search and filtering tools to narrow the results by document category, date range, or keyword. Search broadly at first, since the report may be indexed under an administrative category rather than displayed with an obvious “AER” label.
Check the report carefully after opening it. Confirm that your name, rank, school, course dates, evaluator information, signatures, and final remarks are correct. A scanned copy may appear several pages long, and the document date may reflect completion or filing rather than the first day of the course.

What to do when the report is missing
First, determine whether the report was ever finalized. Contact the course administrator, registrar, unit S-1, or evaluation administrator and ask whether the AER was signed, submitted, and accepted for filing. Provide the course name, class dates, unit, and approximate report date so staff can locate the correct transaction.
If the report was completed but never uploaded, the issuing organization may need to send it through the proper records channel. Keep copies of the signed report, graduation documents, course completion paperwork, and any correspondence about the evaluation. These materials can help establish that the AER existed and support a correction request.
Allow time for processing after submission. A document can pass through quality control and indexing before it becomes searchable. If a reasonable processing period has passed, escalate through the servicing personnel office or the official iPERMS support process rather than repeatedly creating duplicate submissions.
Resolve access and browser problems
CAC middleware, browser compatibility, expired certificates, and network restrictions can prevent a legitimate user from reaching the portal. Try a government or approved military network, verify that the CAC reader is working, and use the browser configuration recommended by the system. Closing all browser windows and restarting the CAC session can also clear an authentication error.
A portal may load successfully while still hiding the report because of permissions. This is especially common when a soldier changes units, a rating chain is updated, or an administrator is looking at a report outside the assigned workflow. Do not attempt to bypass access controls; ask the appropriate S-1, school administrator, or evaluation support office to verify your role.
Screenshots of error messages, the report title, and the date you attempted access can make technical support more effective. Avoid sending sensitive personnel documents through unsecured email or to unofficial websites.
Protect the record after you locate it
Download a personal reference copy only through an authorized Army system and store it securely. Treat the AER as sensitive personnel information, particularly when it includes evaluations, personal identifiers, or comments about academic performance. Do not post it to public cloud storage or share it through ordinary messaging applications.
Review the filed document before relying on it for a board packet, assignment, or personnel action. If a correction is needed, report the specific error and provide evidence rather than editing the document yourself. The official filing authority must approve and replace corrected records.
Useful checks before escalating
- Confirm that the AER is final and signed by the required officials.
- Search both EES and iPERMS using the course dates and school name.
- Verify that your CAC, browser, and network can access Army personnel systems.
- Gather the signed report, course paperwork, and relevant submission details.
- Contact the unit S-1, school administrator, or authorized records office.
An AER is easiest to retrieve when its status, filing location, and responsible office are clear. Check EES for workflow information, review iPERMS for the finalized AMHRR copy, and preserve documentation whenever the record is delayed or incorrect. Use official Army support channels to resolve missing documents and keep your personnel file complete.
